This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Veloraa Finds (veloraafinds.com/, "the site", "we", "us") collects, why it is collected, how it is used and the choices available to visitors. It is written to be consistent with the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).
Who is responsible for your data
Veloraa Finds is an independent blog. For any question about this policy or personal data, contact: veloraafinds@gmail.com. This address also serves as the point of contact for grievances under the DPDP Act.
What the site is built on
The site is a self-hosted WordPress website hosted by Hostinger. It uses the following tools, which are relevant to privacy:
- WordPress for publishing and comments.
- LiteSpeed Cache to make pages load faster.
- Yoast SEO to help search engines understand the content.
- Images from Unsplash and Pexels, credited on each post.
The site does not currently run a newsletter, advertising or analytics tools. If any of these are added later, this policy will be updated before or at the time they go live.
Data collected
When visiting the site
Like almost every website, the hosting server automatically records standard technical information in server logs. This can include IP address, browser type and version, device and operating system details, the page requested, the referring page, and the date and time of the visit. These logs are used to keep the site secure, diagnose problems and prevent abuse.
When leaving a comment
When a comment is submitted, the site collects the name, email address and optional website entered in the comment form, the comment itself, and the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string. This helps with spam detection and moderation.
WordPress may create an anonymised string (a hash) from the email address and send it to the Gravatar service to check whether a profile picture exists. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once a comment is approved, the comment and profile picture (if any) are visible publicly alongside the comment. The email address is never shown publicly.
When contacting us by email
Emails sent to veloraafinds@gmail.com are used only to reply and keep a record of the conversation.
Cookies
The site uses a small number of cookies:
- Comment cookies. If a visitor chooses to save their name, email and website when commenting, WordPress stores these in cookies so they do not need to be re-entered. These last for one year.
- Login cookies. Used only for site administrators and authors who log in to WordPress.
- Caching cookies. LiteSpeed Cache may set technical cookies that help serve the correct cached version of a page. These do not identify visitors personally.
No advertising or tracking cookies are used at present. Browser settings can be used to block or delete cookies, though some features, such as remembered comment details, may then not work.
Embedded content from other websites
Posts may include embedded content such as images, videos or social media posts. Embedded content behaves the same way as if the visitor had visited the other website directly. Those websites may collect data, use cookies and monitor interaction with the embedded content. Most featured images, sourced from Unsplash and Pexels, are stored on and served from this site’s own server. Where an image or embed is loaded directly from an external service, that service can receive the visitor’s IP address and browser details.
Links to other websites are provided for reference. Those websites have their own privacy policies, and Veloraa Finds is not responsible for how they handle data.
Why data is used and the legal basis
- Running and securing the site (server logs, caching): legitimate interests under the GDPR, and legitimate uses for keeping the service secure under the DPDP Act.
- Publishing and moderating comments: consent, given when a comment is submitted.
- Replying to emails: consent and the legitimate interest in responding.
Personal data is never sold or rented to anyone.
Who data is shared with
- Hostinger, as the hosting provider that stores the site and its server logs.
- Gravatar, as described in the comments section above.
- Authorities, only if required by law.
Some of these providers may process data outside the visitor’s country. Where that happens, reasonable steps are taken to rely on providers with appropriate safeguards.
How long data is kept
- Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically. Comments can be deleted on request.
- Server logs are kept for a limited period according to Hostinger’s standard retention practices.
- Emails are kept only as long as needed to handle the conversation.
Your rights
Depending on location, visitors have rights over their personal data. These include the right to:
- access the personal data held about them;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
- request erasure of their data;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing;
- object to or restrict certain processing (GDPR);
- data portability (GDPR);
- nominate another person to exercise these rights in the event of death or incapacity (DPDP Act);
- raise a grievance and, if unresolved, approach the relevant authority, such as a data protection supervisory authority in the EU or UK, or the Data Protection Board of India.
To exercise any of these rights, email veloraafinds@gmail.com. Requests will be answered within a reasonable time and within any period required by law.
Children
The site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children. Anyone under 18 should not submit comments or personal data without the involvement of a parent or guardian. If a child’s data has been submitted, contact us and it will be removed.
Security
The site uses HTTPS and reasonable technical measures to protect data. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, but care is taken to keep personal data safe.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the site changes, for example if analytics, a newsletter or affiliate links are added. The effective date at the top will always show the latest version.
